this what an ean eraser record looks like

Is this Ean Eraser 7″ some long lost KBD gem unearthed from the deepest depths of the Ukraine? Despite the semi-mysterious rumors, the answer is “nope, it ain’t”. But it sure as hell is one of the catchiest a-sides I’ve heard in forever, regardless of where it’s from and when it came out. Nice packaging too. It’s funny how sumthin’ so simple can be so perfect. Go suck it Genesis. Power-poppers hold hands and rejoice.

The 45 is sold-out, but if your feeling optimistic try here: Floridas Dying.

Le Face - Salvador Dali

It’s time. Stop listening to whatever it is your abusing your ears with and check out our latest infatuation, Le Face. Here’s what we think we know about ‘em, thanks to the nice people over at the Dead Beat Records site: Le Face formed in 2006. They’re from Whittier, California. They’ve apparently beaten up some audience members and so on, resulting in certain clubs banning the band –not the end of the world, it happens. Also, Le Face may have some “chemical dependency issues” and/or DUI’s and sometimes don’t play when they’re supposed to. Finally, Le Face describes themselves as “Neo Dada Noise” –whatever that means, and we dig it lots.

Pick up their latest full-length here and find out what they may (or may not) be up to here.

Tristess - Om Natten

this is what a tristess record looks like

It’s no secret over here at NIFH we love the ol’ European punk. It just sounds right. We find it to be more experimental, more melodic, and more prone to quirks –all fantastic stuff as far as we’re concerned. And, since we rarely have any grasp of whatever language is being sung, we get the luxury of skipping the whole messy lyrical agenda thing and get to strictly focus on the sound. Again fantastic. Coming straight outta Sweden, Tristess is certainly no exception. With their third LP, Hög & Låg Blues (Deranged Records), Tristess nails the 70’s euro punk thing perfectly, with enough quirks and melody to have any fan of the genre head over heels faster than you can say “Var är toaletten”. Throw in bright urine yellow vinyl and seriously, what’s not to like?

Get it.

the buzzcocks, way back when

What better band to write about on Valentines Day than one of the best bands on the planet - The Buzzcocks - authors of some of the best love songs ever, punk rock or otherwise. Here’s an oft-overlooked track from the 1996 All Set LP to help get you in the mood. Myself, being the romantic I am, I have more interesting things to do today than write a long-winded bit on this fantastic group for the likes of you slags. Besides, you know it all anyhow. By the way, just in case you don’t know everything: they still play, they still make records and they’re still great. Here’s a link to their official site to keep you up to date on the latest. Happy Valentines Day, suckers.

this what the nodzzz record looks like

This sounds like the sort of stuff that you’d hear on college radio before rich jerks like Paul Allen began “funding” the stations, skewing playlists towards unending rainy day crap and upping the suicide rates wherever it’s depressing waves reach. Blah. Ok…. so maybe it’s raining and gloomy out so maybe I’m just venting. Maybe. Either way, if this band isn’t all over indie radio they damn well should be. This shit is quintessential college rock. Forget about the melancholy 8 minute long songs about clouds and underage boys. Barf. Nodzzz is giving you what you need in 1:32. That’s like 8 times better. Dorky, square, semi out of tune –probably would have been called punk a million years ago and probably still should be. What a great name too. Buy their records. Seriously. Here, here’s a couple of links to help you spend your hard earned recession battered dollar: Nodzzz blog and Nodzzz myspace.

Derek Lyn Plastic - Run With Me

this is what Derek Lyn Plastic looks like

Derek Lyn Plastic
makes classic new wave punk. Creepy songs that owe as much to Gary Numan or The Cars as they do to methamphetamines and trashy pop culture. Clever meets ridiculous –my favorite. Put on your best plastic sunglasses and get down, way down.
